A.P. Moller-Maersk, commonly known as Maersk, is a global leader in container shipping and logistics. Founded in 1904 and headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, the company operates a vast network of shipping routes and ports around the world. Maersk is renowned for its extensive fleet of container ships.
Maersk's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is a crucial aspect of their global operations. However, their actions in Cameroon, particularly in Douala, raise questions about their commitment to social responsibility.
Maersk's CSR initiatives focus on:
- Sustainability
- Ethical conduct
- Human rights
- Community engagement
However, in Cameroon, Maersk's agents have been accused of:
- Violating human rights
- Engaging in unethical conduct
- Disregarding community concerns
- Prioritizing profits over sustainability
This paradox between Maersk's global CSR commitments and their local actions in Cameroon highlights the need for greater accountability and transparency

TéléchargementMaritime conventions are crucial in regulating the shipping industry and protecting the rights of individuals involved. However, the paradox between Maersk's global commitments to social responsibility and their local actions in Cameroon raises questions about their true commitment to these conventions.
Maersk's actions in Cameroon, such as violating human rights and engaging in unethical conduct, are in stark contrast to their global CSR initiatives. This discrepancy highlights the need for greater accountability and transparency in the shipping industry.
The maritime conventions that Maersk has signed onto, such as the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) and the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), are meant to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals and the environment.
However, Maersk's actions in Cameroon demonstrate a lack of adherence to these conventions. It is essential that Maersk takes responsibility for their actions and works towards a more transparent and accountable approach to their operations in Cameroon.
Furthermore, the Cameroonian government must also take steps to ensure that Maersk and other shipping companies operating in their country are held accountable for their actions. This includes enforcing maritime conventions and protecting the rights of individuals affected by their operations.
Ultimately, the shipping industry must prioritize transparency, accountability, and social responsibility to ensure that the rights of individuals and the environment are protected.
According to maritime convention, it is forbidden to change the consignee once the goods have arrived at the dock. Yet, Maersk decided to change the recipient of the goods in favor of Mr. Toche, after Von Bangoulap Sarl had already paid the customs duties and completed the customs formalities. This appears to be a violation of the maritime convention and customs rules. It is important to contest this decision and ask Maersk for explanations on the reasons that led them to make this decision. It is also important to verify if Mr. Toche has any links with Maersk or if he has personal interests in this matter. It is possible that Maersk acted against the interests of Von Bangoulap Sarl and the victims of the container delivery upprooted tortously by MAERSK Cameroon fraud system.

Currently my husband is in Cameroon to follow up to be paid what the courts had requested Maersk to pay him since 2022. But he gets arrested by the people whose merchandise have not been deliver yet, consequence to the account frozen, and thrown in jail. He has been in Cameroon since May 4th 2024. He was supposed to return after two and a half weeks, but he is still held up. My kids are very distressed because they cannot understand why their father is not back yet. What do I tell my children? How do I start telling them their father is locked up? As I speak, we are currently homeless. My husband is in Cameroon, we don't know his date in the jail he is in. I don't know if he will come out alive, because he is not used to that way of living. School is about to start, I don't know how I will be able to prepare my boys for school. This is really weighing down on me and I ask that you look into this matter justly and grant what is due my husband, so he can pay off these people he owes and return to his family. We need him. Thanks for your time. Hope to hear from you as soon as possible regarding this issue

Hello Ms Ashley, this is Jane-Mary, Jean Patrice's wife. I got your number from my husband. He said you were in Douala and are aware of everything going on. I have also been in contact with Brad at the Embassy in Yaounde for the past 2 months, since all this madness has been going on.
I am going insane because all this until this point is not making any sense to me. How do honest people get entangled with dishonest and corrupt people, and why can no one see what is going on? Our lives have not been the same ever since Maersk stole our 2 containers in 2021-22. We did everything possible to send home 2 more containers and instructed that, the lawyer (Mr Kenfac), who was running the business at the time and legalizing all documents that needed to be legalized, should sell its contents and refund the customers who had their partially paid merchandise in the first 2 stolen containers. What did he do? He brought in 2 other lawyers who worked with him and they stole these containers as well. Then he would not take our calls anymore or communicate with us. At that time we were suing Maersk and in the process Mr Kenfac was arrested. That was when we found out he was not a lawyer, had gone to law school, but never passed the board exam. Cameroon being as corrupt as always, he bribed himself out of jail and at this time, the word is "he is nowhere to be found". Really?
My husband decides to go to Cameroon to to collect the money Maesrk is supposed to repay him as the court had passed judgement, so he can pay the people he owes, and he is instead arrested and thrown in a criminal jail. What offense has he committed here?
With all the pain and suffering we have gone through in the US from the consequences of the stolen containers, lost our home, lost our cars at some point, and even our property in the storage. We had to move out of our 5 bedroom home into a 2 bedroom apartment. Presently before my husband decided he had to go to Cameroon, we were evicted from the apartment. We were leaving at Extended Stay hotel, hoping my husband was going to be gone for 2 weeks as planned, after getting his money from Maesrk and settling his customers he owed, will return, and we can buy another home and continue with our lives. At some point I couldn't continue staying there because the little savings ran out. I am now squatting with a friend and her family. Where is our family dignity in all this?
Our boys especially the younger one, keeps asking when Daddy is returning 😭. What do I tell my boys? It breaks my heart day in day out. This is the Summer break, we try to do some fun things with the boys to relax their minds since they have been doing well in school, but this Summer is different. Can't do anything. I work with CVS pharmacy, but my paycheck cannot do it all especially when as a family, my husband and I have been taking care of things together. Everything is all on me, I have to schedule payments here and there just to try to make ends meet.
What is really mind bugging is the fact that my husband was thrown into a criminal jail for a civil case? What crime has he committed? I still keep asking. My kids go to Catholic school and school is about to start, how do I get them ready for school, how do I pay their school fees? My husband has been locked up for 2 months now, how do they expect him locked up, to follow up with Maersk for the money to pay the people they are arresting him for none payment? Another

In a world of progress and ongoing advancements, there is little to be said about environmental conservation and awareness. Many individuals remain blissfully ignorant of issues outside of their own countries, specifically how other people are suffering due to pollution, poor sanitation, and major ecological issues. In Africa this has become a problem that we cannot hope to ignore any longer. In addition to poverty, starvation and lack of clean drinking water, the world most be aware of.
